JEF Finland and JEF Europe are pleased to invite you to participate in the International Seminar "European Citizenship in the Globalising World"

JEF Europe plans to gather participants from more than 30 European countries from different regions that range from far North to the Mediterranean.

The Federal Committee of JEF Europe will meet at the end of the seminar, from Friday 24th March (start in the afternoon) until Sunday 26th March (end around 14.00).

*** INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ***

European citizenship is an important issue in today’s world, where more and more decisions take place outside our own borders. When the global processes become more and more part of our everyday life, we must conceptualise again also the meaning of active citizenship. What does it mean to be an active citizen in Europe ? What are the different dimensions of citizenship ? How can we develop the idea of active citizenship in today’s global world ?

The questions will be tackled through lectures, workshops and simulations, held by the academics, politicians and representatives of youth with various backgrounds.

The seminar takes place in Kiljava, in the municipal of Nurmijärvi, 45 minutes away from Helsinki. The seminar venue will be a conference centre of Kiljava http://www.kio.fi/Resource.phx/ranta/mainpage.htx, In the beautiful surroundings we will also have the chance to try Finnish winter sports such as Ice-skating and sliding down the hill in the snow.

We will have also swimming pool and sauna for our disposal the whole time and possibilities for other sports in the centre.

We will also visit Helsinki with the seminar participants. The Federal Committee will take place also in Helsinki.

*** PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS ***

** International seminar **

Participation fee : 100 EUR, covering full board from Sunday 19th March in the evening until Sunday 26 March in the morning.

Travel reimbursement : 70% of an economy train, bus and flight ticket, up to a maximum of 200 EUR.

Travel reimbursement will be given on the spot at the end of the seminar, to participants who have attended all sessions. Reimbursement will be provided upon presentation of travel documents, clearly showing the amount spent.

Few scholarships and/or extra travel reimbursements will be available on special request to the JEF European Secretariat and attributed upon motivation.

Participation fee : 25 EUR for delegates 50 EUR for observers The participation fee covers full board from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.

There are no travel reimbursements available for participants attending the FC only. FC members are encouraged to attend the seminar.

Les Jeunes Européens Lyon en partenariat avec L’ANAJ IHEDN ont eu le plaisir d’accueillir Le Général Stouff et Mr Ramel pour débattre de ce sujet.

Présentation du sujet par le général STOUFF

Le général supporte l’idée que la défense européenne n’existe pas de nos jours. Pour y parvenir, des institutions, une Constitution et une volonté politique sont nécessaires. Bien que la déclaration de Petersberg de 1992 contient des missions humanitaires et bien que le traité de Bruxelles de 1948 comporte une clause de solidarité, celle volonté n’existe pas vraiment. Le 11 septembre 2001 avec ses événements connu de tous a été la seule occasion d’utiliser cette clause de solidarité. Elle n’apparaît donc pas très effective et constitue pourtant la condition sine qua none d’une éventuelle défense européenne......

Présentation du sujet par M. Ramel, professeur en science politique à Lyon 3.

M. Ramel reste optimiste malgré l’échec du référendum. L’Europe de la défense se renforce en effet, peu à peu, mais d’une manière toujours progressive. Il faut bousculer l’image issue de la mythologie où Europe est une nymphe fragile ayant besoin d’un protecteur comme l’OTAN. Vainqueur de la présidentielle polonaise, Lech Kaczynski, 56 ans, maire de Varsovie, a obtenu 54% des voix, le 23 octobre dernier.

Cette élection présidentielle suit les élections législatives du 25 septembre qui a montré l’émergence de la droite en Pologne. La Diète polonaise est donc franchement ancrée à droite, voire à droite de la droite !! En effet, Marek Jurek, ultra catholique et antieuropéen radical a été élu Président de la Diète grâce aux voies de la Ligue des Familles (parti clérical conservateur) et d’Autodéfense (parti populiste d’extrême droite)... lire la suite
